I'm attempting to connect my PS4 controller to a laptop over the built-in bluetooth. I pair by either holding the ps button and options (which my laptop autodetects and pairs) or holding the ps button and share and then explicitly pairing using 'Add Bluetooth or other device'.

If re-syncing the controller with the system didn't work, you can manually reset the controller as follows: Locate the small reset button on the back of the DS4 near the L2 button. Use a small, pointy object, such as an unfolded paper-clip (or a similar object) to push the button.

The pair succeeds but when I try to actually connect the controller (by pressing the ps button), the bar flashes then goes off. On the laptop it appears as 'Connected' very briefly then immediately switches to 'Driver error'.
I have previously managed to get it to connect without the driver error but it didn't actually work (buttons had no effect). Connecting via USB works fine.
Edit: I've now managed to get it to connect without the driver error again but nothing apart from windows' bluetooth devices screen detects it.
I've tried updating drivers and multiple reinstalls with no luck.

I don't actually own a PS4 (I bought this controller especially to use with my laptop). I'd really appreciate any help as I'm rather short on USB ports.

You mentioned you updated the drivers, but DS4 has no official driver on Windows 10 so I assume you are using an unofficial driver like DS4Windows.
There was a change to Windows that broke DS4Windows and effectively renders the DS4 device unusable until the user manually re-enables it. To work around this issue, you'll need to re-enable the DS4 and use a patched version of DS4Windows.
The Jays2Kings version is no longer being maintained and doesn't have a fix for this issue. If you were previously using this version, it's recommended that you update to Ryochan7's fork:

You cannot use the PS4 controller over Bluetooth without purchasing the 'PS4 DualShock USB Wireless Adaptor', or using the USB cable. If you want to save yourself some money, using a USB cable is the easiest option.
Unfortunately, either option will take up a USB port on your laptop.

Below is a screenshot from the MacOS version of PS4 Remote Play app, indicating the two ways in which the DS4 will work. The Windows version of the Remote Play app has a similar message. I understand that you may not be using the Remote Play app on your own PC, but the message is a good indicator of what is supported.
I have a similar problem on my MacBook. My controller connected successfully at the first time, but failed to connect the next time. The bluetooth preferences interface said that the controller is connected but showed a loading indicator (like it's connecting) and finally failed.
I succeeded to fix it by deleting the /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file.

Hello, I've decided to reinstall my DS4 Drivers because I had an issue with my PS4 Gamepad, it suddenly stopped getting any signal from DS4 Windows and acted as a simple PS4 Gamepad. Apparently the bandwidth limit had been exceeded and I'm pretty sure the installer gets files from said website, it opens the installer and downloads the required files to install DS4 Drivers. Could you help me out solve this problem? Do you have a copy of your DS4 Windows for offline installation usage? |

@xdantey The site appears to be up at this time. If you are referring to 'Step 1: Install the DS4 Driver', then you are correct in regards to the installer retrieving a file from the site (http://ds4windows.com/Files/Virtual Bus Driver.zip). I would suggest downloading that file if there have been intermittent site outages. Simply running and installing ScpDriver should address the first step. Understanding Exam Result Unlike some exams this one tends not to be wordy but rather to the point. Some other PMI exams simulate real life with question fact overload. In the Introduction we discussed the relative distribution of question by topic area. Audio book free download. Honesty: Understand the truth and act in a truthful manner. It is critical to realize that neither this course nor any other 21 hour course covers all of the possible. Considerable independent reading and study will be necessary. |

so im getting the Bandwidth Limit Exceeded The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to the site owner reaching his/her bandwidth limit. Please try again later. error when i try to just pull up the standard site.. does anyone have the vbus file downloaded? if so can your share it? cuz the site is most def not functioning ATM. |

Yes, just run ScpDriver.exe and after that start DS4Windows and the Install window won't pop up (at least on win10) |

My suggestion to all is to use input mapper. It's an alternate program since this one is no longer properly supported. Consider the unofficial successor. |

I test InputMapper fairly frequently but neither version 1.6 nor 1.7 work that well. Neither version can get the most basic DS4 to XInput mapping system right. There have been some interesting developments but Wobbles really should have just focused on getting XInput mapping working well with 1.7 before jumping into implementing other features. Testing the most recent 1.7 build (1.7.6811.34320) with HTML5 Gamepad Tester shows that the full analog stick range is not even being used for the output XInput device. |

Again it's an alternative. Use whatever works for you. This is the option for those that don't want to try and debug this.. Our can't get this working.. Input mapper is another option. That one is just actively supported. Just updated this month.. Not saying one is necessarily better then the other.. Everyone can choose for what to use. But may not know of other options. |
